If God is forgiving why does he allow people to go to hell?

If God is forgiving why are some souls condemned for eternity? I can understand temporarily, I can understand the idea of purgatory, but why eternity? If God knows what you are going to do from birth until death and he knows that you won't accept Jesus what's the point of one's existence? I'm sure if people knew for sure and had proper evidence people would not deny him. I know faith is supposed to be blind but when one is a child they are led by the parents who may or may not follow Jesus. I understand that we have free will. But God knows what we will do so why what's the point? There are so many Christian churches with different answers like: Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, and etc. Could it be possible that mistranslation happened in the bible somewhere? I personally believe in Jesus and beg for forgiveness everyday. I just don't understand! Atheists keep your snooty comments away
